Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State and other governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, are currently meeting in Abuja.
Naija News reports that the meeting which is being held at the Akwa Ibom State governor’s lodge is coming barely 10 days to the PDP convention.
The main opposition party has set October 30/31 for its national convention at the Eagles square, Abuja.
The meeting had in attendance Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom), Duoye Diri (Bayelsa), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State.
An official of the PDP Governors’ Forum told Vanguard that the meeting is not unconnected with heat generated by the collapse of consensus arrangement particularly in the South-East.
“The governors are scared of the implication of going to the convention in crisis.
“When you see a position micro-zoned to a region or state and a consensus cannot be reached, then there is a problem. This is what the governors want to deal with,” he said.
Meanwhile, the PDP has reportedly generated the sum of ₦63 million from the sale of nomination forms to party members seeking various offices.
Naija News reports that the nation’s main opposition party commenced screening of individuals vying for offices in the 2021 National Convention.
The party screening exercise chaired by Bello Adoke kick-started on Wednesday morning at the Legacy House, Maitama, Abuja.
